The 2nd Version 12 Inch Tangential Turnout 3D Printed N Scale Model Train Jigs
I needed to squeeze a turnout into the upper corner of my small 2x4' layout (60cmx120cm). A regular #4 turnout wouldn't fit and still allow the curve to fit. I had a 12" curved track there and wanted a industrial spur as a tangential path. So using Sketchup Make 2017 I designed a jig for a turnout with a 12" curved diverging rail and a tangential path. The first version was a pure tangential path and seemed to work well for the right hand version, but the left hand turnout that I initially made did not have a nice clean path. My solution was to move the throwbar, and with it the contact points of the diverging rails, two ties closer to the frog. Only minor changes were needed to the design and then to reprint the jig and tiebed. Rather pleased with the results, it looks nice, seems to work ok and fits my layout's needs. https://youtu.be/8SaMqmUohSA
