What is it?
A 3D necktie based on NASA's Chainmail design.
This is my first project and luckily other contributors already completed a lot of the heavy lifting - a huge thanks to TurboDork for developing the 3D models for the NASA Chainmail Fabric and to tjwatson for developing a swappable tie coupling and knot system.
How to Print and Assemble?
To print a full tie, you will need to print the upper, middle, and lower sections. After you print the sections you will need to print ten links (five between each section) and carefully weave the sections together.
tjwatson created a plain knot and a deco knot that you can attach to the front of the coupler here - please note that these knots require supports.
You can use Bowtie straps to make the necktie easy to put on and take off - this is what I used:
10 PCS Adjustable Bow Tie Straps Suitable for All Types of Bow Ties
What Files are There?
- *NASA Tie_deco knot*: This is the knot design provided by tjwatson, modified to fit the modified coupler
- *NASA Tie_plain knot*: This is the knot design provided by tjwatson, modified to fit the modified coupler
- *NASA Tie Coupler_v4*: This is the coupler design provided by tjwatson, modified to: 1) fit the thickness of this tie and 2) allow you to wear the tie with either the front or the back showing - Please note that this replaces previous versions to better fit the top of the tie
- *NASA Tie Top*: This is the top third of the necktie using the NASA fabric from Turbo Dork, modified into a tie shape combined with the coupler design provided by tjwatson, modified to: 1) fit the thickness of this tie and 2) allow you two wear the tie with either the front or the back showing
- *NASA Tie Middle*: This is the middle third of the necktie using the NASA fabric from Turbo Dork, modified into a tie shape
- *NASA Tie Bottom*: This is the bottom third of the necktie using the NASA fabric from Turbo Dork, modified into a tie shape
- *NASA_Fabric_Link_Mk_III_fixed_v2*: This is the link to connect the tie sections from TurboDork, modified to repair a vertex error that was causing a dimple on the front of the link on my 3D Printer
- *NASA_Fabric_Link_Mk_II_-_Plug_v2*: This is the plug for the link to connect the tie sections from TurboDork
