Description
I've been on the hunt for the perfect hypersonic grid fin model, and t4obrien has done it.
I wanted to modify t4obrien's original model to allow the embedding of 608 bearings for flap and pitch motions. After reaching out to t4obrien, he provided me with a detailed model that I could manipulate in Fusion360.
I created the “base” to allow for pitch rotation of the grid fin, and then I created a “mount” to allow for the flap hinge.
Painting involved a grey primer coat for the parts, then silver metallic for the grid fin, and flat white for the base and mount. The bearings are press-fit, and the piece was assembled. To add additional realism, I ‘weathered’ the underside of the gridfin and mounts with some carbon-black spray paint to simulate a post-flight condition.
