Description
A DIY solution in OEM-quality for illuminating the phone tray of your VW Multivan T6. Includes all printable parts and drilling templates. It is intended to use with a 3mm LED, an appropriate series resistor (e.g. 560 to 1000 Ohm) and the micro switch DG13-B3LA with two M2 Bolts. Furthermore you need some alu metallized tape, wires, connectors, some expendable items and a clue how to wire it all.
The full stage of expansion includes the mentioned switch to turn off the light when the tray flap is closed (solely aesthetical reasons) and the option to connect the cigarette lighter illumination.
Leave the wiring to a car electrician if you are not a practitioner.
Roughly listed steps:
remove tray from dashboard
disassemble top cover of tray
attach drilling template to top cover (the "V" on the front side of the drilling template has to face to you)
drill the 3 holes with a 2mm drill, deburr slightly
apply a fitting piece of metallized tape to the right side as reflector
insert the diffusion disc to the 3 holes
carefully melt its 3 pins on the backside to fix the disc
attach drilling template to the right wall of the tray (press on as far as it will go)
drill the LED hole with a 3mm drill, deburr slightly
select the appropriate LED spacer thickness, the LED should not protrude at the inner wall side when inserted to the hole
reassemble the top cover to tray
insert LED together with spacer, note the correct position of flattened side
fix LED and spacer with a drop of glue
insert the microswitch holder, begin with the slotted side, then carefully push in the other side with the locking latch
attach the switch accordingly with two M2 bolts
do the wiring at your convenience, use the holes in the back side of the micro switch holder with a wire strap as strain relief
