Description

This Laser Cutter/Engraver Rotary attachment is a combination of 3D Printed and Laser cut parts. I created this attachment for my Omtech 2440 100 Watt laser cutter. Note, this rotary is designed at 24 inches in length and is originally intended for large laser cutters. If you plan to use this in a smaller laser cutter, you'll likely have to modify the bed components to make it shorter.

I've included the original Affinity Designer file and SVG versions as well as the original Sketchup file to make customization as easy as possible.

Please refer to the exploded view STL for information on how to assemble.

The following is the bill of materials used in this build:

28 qty 3mm X 16mm screws (Assembly plus Motor)
12 qty 3mm X 10mm screws (Stabilizers, Nut Stoppers)
4 qty 4mm X 30mm Hex Head Bolts (knobs, Pressure Assembly)
2 qty 4mm Nuts (Knobs)
1 qty 4mm Lock Nut (Pressure Assembly)
2 qty 4mm Washers (Pressure Assembly Spring)
1 qty 5.56mm X 41.28mm Spring (Pressure Assembly)
1 qty #18 O-Ring (Pressure Wheel)
8 qty #224 Silicone O-Rings (Drive and Idler Wheels)
5 qty 8mm Rod Sections (Drive Wheels, Idler Wheels, Pressure Assembly)
1 qty NEMA 17 Motor
1 qty Sheet 457mm x 609mm (18 in x 24 in) x 5.6mm thick (~1/4 in) Acrylic
5 qty 608 Roller Skate Bearings
1 qty 200mm X 6mm GT2 Closed Loop Belt
Cyanoacrylate Glue
Sandpaper
Screwdrivers / Allen Keys

Note: The 8mm steel rod sections were cut from a longer piece using a grinder and were about 25mm each. These should be cut later in the process after verifying the required length. Additionally, the steel rod for the pressure wheel was well scored on one end, that end was then heated and melted into the end of the pressure arm to ensure a secure fit.

Additional assembly note: the upper 2 screws to hold the motor on are challenging because they end up behind the drive wheels. During assembly I put them in and only snugged them a bit to allow tapping of the motor to tension the belt. The lower two motor screws were then tightened to hold the motor in place and keep the belt tight.

3mm x 12mm screws are acceptable when joining two sheets of acrylic (Nut Stoppers and rod stabilizers) however it may be necessary to file their tips a bit to prevent them from popping out the back side a little.
