Description

Long drop powder tube for Lyman Aluminum Powder funnel set.

Requires 8mm OD / 1mm wall (6mm ID) tube, four 5/16" by 1/16" o-rings (possibly optional), and two 1/2" by 1/16" o-rings (can alternately be done with a metric 16mm by 2.4mm whose print was also added but I find this one to be less desirable).

If you're printing near the edge of capacity or are leaning towards compressed loads and prefer the better quality aluminum funnel path, these inserts will allow you to adapt your set to a long drop type configuration. Tube type is optional, I used a common polycarbonate straw like they use in large portable drinking bottles (I picked up 5 at the WM for like $2 so have spares) and I like this config as it lets you see the powder as it drops with no static so far to speak of but am open to changing to aluminum or copper tubing should the need arise.

I used a slight inner chamfer on the funnel side which eliminated any sticks from hanging and a slight outer chamfer near the cartridge side so that it would sit lower in the adapter with minimized jostling of the powder. I've used so far with 6.5mm case mount without issue (pouring slowly for best compaction(?)) but have not had the chance to try it with any smaller necked cartridges yet. On a mid-sized cartridge I took a common stick powder from slam full to just below the case neck with only a slow pour.

Feel free to adjust as you need. I did include the larger o-ring version I started with for the funnel side connection but I was very disappointed with it's performance coming from plastic. I found the dual o-ring connection to be more secure not to mention easier to print and deal with. Each side of the adapter has two o-ring slots for the tubing but depending on your tube you may find these unnecessary. I just didn't want them easily slipping out. :)
