Description
I really like the Fuse Power Cord reel, but I REALLY do not want to pay $25 (or more) for it. This gadget is NOT as cool as the Fuse Reel, but it is quite functional. The left and right pieces snap onto the body of the power supply tightly. When you wrap the cords around the body, you will need 2 velcro straps (about 4" each) to loop through the wings and restrain the cables for storage or transport.
This design is meant to give a lot of air space and venting around the white brick because the brick generates a lot of heat when in use.
The Creative Commons license says "no derivatives," but this design would need to be reworked for other Apple power supplies for the dimensions of the white brick. I know the 45W supply is smaller, so you may need to add shims to the design to hold it in place.
V3 Update: I have been kicking around this design for a while, and while V2 was interesting, it was frankly not big enough to take all the cable wrapped up inside the enclosure. It also takes a lot of filament, and I wanted to reduce the total weight without destroying the durability. And I have also discovered that I really do prefer to make things that "print flat" which also do not require supports. So I am uploading the V3 version of this build with new pictures and new STL files. It now uses 3/4" 10-24 screws to keep the two sides together, and you will have to tap the screw holes as I am not yet adept at designing threaded holes.
Enjoy!
V2 Updated: Today I just printed an upgraded version of this winder, and it has 2 major improvements:
Let me know how this work for you!!
Author Note: I just reprinted this Thing using TPU, and the results are quite thrilling. The flexibility of TPU mitigate all the troublesome brittleness you may have experienced when you printed this the first time. Consider it as you reprint for future use.
