NOTE: This is still very much a work in progress ! I am working through test-printing the pieces to make sure they go together as I expect.

Update 1: After initial test print, I have gone back and reworked the texture on the overhang beams, as it wasn't deep enough when test printed. The new test prints look much better ! I have also created an internal corner piece for the upper floor. Coming next are some wood fillets to stick underneath the upper floor, and some bits to allow internal walls to work properly.....

This is a group of parts to go with the other assorted Tudor OpenLOCK sets I've made. It is designed to create the overhanging upper floors typical of Tudor and medieval wood-framed buildings.

The parts included are;

  • Four variants of the half-height wall with supports for the floor above.
  • A half width (1 inch) half-height wall with support for the upper floor
  • A corner pillar with supports
  • Two variants of an upper floor corner piece - the difference is which way the floor panels face.
  • An upper floor inner corner piece, to enable you to create recesses.
  • A column to go with the inner corner piece (includes floor texture)
  • A short column.
  • A floor support pillar
  • Three lengths of spacer bar with OpenLOCK clip ends.
  • Some wood texture fillet pieces to glue or Blu-Tack underneath wall pieces (useful if you'll be looking up at the overhangs from below.)

The way it works is that the half-height walls and corner pillars stack onto the top of the lower floor. The top of the wall has a piece with OpenLock slots each side, so that a wall can slot to the outside and floors attach to the inside. If I have done my maths right, the combination of pieces should overhang by half an inch on each side of the building.

If you lift the whole upper floor off (to make the lower floor playable), the floor may need support from below (it will be about an inch above the tabletop), which is where the floor support pillars come in. You can scatter a few underneath as required. Alternatively, you can set them up in a more regular pattern using the spacer bars - they're a good way to deploy OpenLOCK tiles in a grid in a way which minimises printing time !

All pieces print without additional supports, but you'll need to clip out some of the internal supports in the OpenLOCK slots.
