  • 7/29/2017 UPDATE: To commemorate 4000 views, I have added two files for a higher fidelity model based loosely on the model at, https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/sls-block1-3ds . The tower of the LAS is in the file LAS_Nosecone_V3_1of2.stl. While there are some overhang regions, it should be able to print without supports. One Abort Motor nozzle is in the second file LAS_Noseconde_2of2.stl. You need to print four of these and attach them to the flat regions on the LAS tower. The nozzles should be printed with the y-axis pointed upwards, and with supports.
  • 6/20/2015 UPDATE: To commemorate 2000 views, I have added a file for an improved version (LAS_Nosecone_V2.stl). This new version has a much smoother surface, a slight chamfer around the base to make it easier to slide into a rocket body tube, and an integrated cavity/bar to tie the chute lines and shock chord to.

To celebrate the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle's EFT-1 test
flight, here is an Orion-like nose cone for model rockets. It features
details such as the ogive fairing, the fillet region, the abort motor
nozzles, the jettison motor nozzles, and the raceway.
Orion EFT-1 was launched on a Delta-IV Heavy on December 5th, 2014. Soon Orion will fly on the SLS. Now you can launch Orion on your own rocket!
See Orion and EFT-1 details at,
http://www.nasa.gov/exploration/systems/orion/
http://exploredeepspace.com/
Just download, scale to your tube diameter, and print out.

See example printed on a MakerBot Replicator 2, sized for the 1.62" O.D. body tube of an Estes Baby Bertha rocket. This Orion nose cone is about 5.75" tall.
