Description
This is a replacement gear for the Odin M12 Speedloader used in Airsoft. I noticed mine was wearing out and haven't been able to find any in stock so.... made my own.
I'm a little biased, but I think it's an improvement on the original. This gear feels almost exactly the same when filling a mag, and the thicker curved teeth should reduce the amount of wear. It also still loads 2 bbs per tooth as well as the original.
The base of the plate is slightly higher to align better with the interior channel, outside diameter is slightly increased, the teeth are slightly taller and significantly thicker, and as mentioned the outside of the teeth is now rounded which should provide a smoother transition between teeth.
I prototyped in PLA and found that after 5 mags, there was slight rounding on the outside edge of the tooth similar to the original. I will update once I have more extensive testing.
I would recommend printing in a tougher material. I would think that PETG, ABS, or some type of resin print will last significantly longer.
Update 1: Checked after about 3,600 rounds. Very minor wear. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it's holding up. I suspect the "turbine" shape is turning out to be significantly more efficient than the original design.
Update 2: Got to about 7k rounds when I had a tooth break off. Otherwise wear was minimal.
Update 3: I was having repeated failures with basic PLA and got fed up so I ordered some in carbon fiber nylon. It's sticking a lot more so it's more difficult to turn, but it seems to be preforming waaaaay better. Might be a little overboard but I had to see!
Update 4: 5 game days (about 13k rounds) and the CF nylon is holding up fantastically . Barely any wear (picture of black wheel). To help with the "sticking" I used some high grit sandpaper and a little lube on the back of the wheel and everyone who has tried it out thinks it feels just about the same as the original. The curved teeth make it feel as smooth as if not a little better than the original.
Update 5: Finally had a complete failure with the CF nylon, 3 teeth broke in the same day. I've no idea how long this one lasted but it was the first I installed, but at least 50k rounds. Worth it.
