Pre- and Early WW2 Waterline Destroyers

After being challenged to create a British “Town” class destroyer, I expanded into other pre- and early WW2 Allied destroyers. All are newly created; level of detail varies, but they have been “bulked up” to print at 1:1200 or (reduced to 50%) at 1:2400. Some detail will be lost at smaller scales, and they should be hollowed further at larger ratios (1:1000 to 1:700). Most are already hollowed underneath like the old “Superior” metal recognition models, sufficiently for 1:1200 and smaller.

MNR L’Adroit - Improved French fleet torpedo ship (“destroyer” in English parlance), somewhat slower than other navies’ due to the low speed of the French battle line of the time.

MNR Aigle - Improved French anti-destroyer/scout ship (“leader” in English parlance) but intended to destroy enemy torpedo craft with its heavy (138mm) gun armament.

MNR Mogador - Very large French scout/torpedo ship intended to scout for the new fast battleships against German pocket battleships as well as opposing Italian light cruisers with her heavy gun armament.

HMS Ardent - First standardized British post-WWI destroyers, the “A” of the “A through I” classes which formed the pattern for small fleet destroyers into WW2. HMS Ardent herself was sunk trying to defend HMS Glorious from KMS Scharnhorst.

HM Tribal class - Large British “leaders” with heavy gun armament to counter big French and Italian “leaders.”

HMS Laforey - Relatively large British destroyers (“L and M class”) armed with 4.7in guns in “weatherproof” “high-angle” twin pseudo-turrets (which turned out to be neither weatherproof nor able to elevate enough to engage dive-bombers). In mid-war one torpedo mount was replaced by a single 4in anti-aircraft gun; later the torpedo tubes were restored.

HM Town class destroyers - The 50 flush-decked “destroyers for bases” ships transferred to Britain from the US early in the war. In British service, most torpedo tubes and 4in guns were removed, with anti-aircraft and anti-submarine equipment such as radar and Hedgehog fitted.

USS Porter - US interpretation of the “leader” with heavy single-purpose gun armament and cruiser-style tripod masts.

USS Farragut - First US destroyers after the mass WW1/ post-WW1 projects. Dual-purpose 5in armament with shields only on forward mounts.
