Description

This motor adapter is designed for use with 3 Estes 24mm rocket motors and can be screwed on any Estes 29mm motor screw on. It is specifically design for models with 2" body tube diameter such as the Estes Mammoth.

There are mainly three reasons for designing this motor adapter.

  • Flying cluster motors looks and sounds cool :-)

  • Another reason is to take advantage of Estes D or E Motors available at your local hobby shops as an alternative to 29mm motors.

  • But foremost I needed an adapter in case a motor cato'd. Having the motors mounted outside of the rocket frame should reduce damages to the rocket itself. This actually happened once so far with one engine malfunctioning and being ejected while the other 2 motors successfully carrying the rocket to altitude.

For Estes E Motors you will need 3 pieces BT-50 body tubes each cut to 85 mm (3.36 inches) in length. If you are going to use D size motors, then either use shorter body tube or stand-off.

On my first flights I didn't glue any of the pieces together. They were held by friction. This worked except that when the rocket would land on the adapter it would fall apart.
I have now glued the parts together with very little epoxy to keep them in place.
