Description
We bought one of these coat stands a few years ago and as is typical, after starting off with half a dozen coats and jackets, it ended up being loaded up with more garments than a TK-Max store. One of the common criticisms is the rack is flimsy and will collapse if overloaded or loaded unevenly. It's more of a design issue than a material issue, relying on some cheap little bits of pressed steel / chocolate / Chinesium rings, which will distort and allow the stem tubes to twist inside one another, causing the stem to collapse.
A pretty simple modification is to fit these spacer rings inside the two lower joints of the rack, which support the Chinesium rings, preventing them from distorting and allowing the stem to be fully tightened down, maintaining its integrity.
