No matter which Artillery Sidewinder X2 review I saw - all, myself included are unhappy with the original Artillery Filament spool holder.
It is wobbly, tends to fall apart, and the filament sensor holder is awkwardly positioned.
Thats why I designed my own one which can be simply plugged on.
Features
- Centered everything (Spool centered Front/Back/Left/Right, Filament-Sensor feedthrough centered to the middle of the spool, Feedthough is also nearly on a line with the extruder in Y-Axies)
- Reusing the original Rollers, Bearings, Screws
- Reusing the original Filament Sensor and its holder
- Clampmount for the Sidewinder X2 plastic connection bar
- Pressfit. No additional Glue or Screws needed
- Easy to print and assemble
- Supports 250g-1100g roles. 2kg should also fit (but never tested it in real, leave a comment if this works too)
Assemble
See pictures
- Be sure your printer does not over extrude filament. For the pressfit there is a tolerance of just 0.1mm
- Put one of the sides on a flat table, press it carfully to the bottom part (use the correct side!). Use a hammer and something in between and push it very carfully together until both parts are flush. Only push and hammer vertically that you don't break the part while assembling.
- Optional, you mount the roller bearings and rollers before pressfit both sides completely. Then you save the careful bending open of the two sides
- Repeat the same procedure with the other side.
- If not done already, install the bearings and carefully bend the two sides apart while inserting the rollers.
- Install the filament sensor. Just reuse the original Screw and holder
- Plug it onto your printer
Enjoy, post some your make and feel free to leave comments.
