Top Paw Pet Gate Keep Open Doorstop Fix

This is a pet gate open keeper (doorstop) for auto closing gates like the one pictured here. Ours is by Top Paw, but I believe there are similar designs that use the same corner mechanism this may fit. Feel free to comment if you have a different brand this looks like it will also work for.

For those who have one or more of these gates in high traffic areas of your home, you may find that the built in stop endpoints wear down quickly and the door will no longer stay propped open when you want it to. This is a fix that works much better than the original design while still being fairly minimalistic. It keeps the door open at full prop in one direction as most people will always keep the gate open in a specific orientation, but still allows ease of closing by simply pulling from the full open position past the stop. The gate works normally otherwise and only requires the two existing hinge bracket screws to be removed and reinserted through the model once mounted on top of the bottom hinge bracket.

The model provided here can easily be switched from one direction to the other by mirroring it in your slicer. If anyone finds they need one that works in both directions, I can easily post a v2 that has a stop on both sides, just let me know and I can whip one up quickly.

Edit:

V2 is out now. I made a small change to thicken up the support on the wedge arm due to eventual cracking that can occur with frequent use, even with PETG. Also added a bidirectional model that has a stop on both sides so it will prop the gate open either way.

As before, if you need a single-sided stop the opposite direction, just mirror the layout of the single direction stop in your slicer and it will work flawlessly as that's what I did on one fo the gates I needed to open the other way.
