Dishwasher Slider

Slider sign for the dishwasher. Magnets assist with snapping the sign in the Dirty or Clean position. The magnets used for the project are 3mm x 10mm.

Assembly is pretty straightforward, insert magnets in the base with matching orientations on the outside and reverse orientation in the middle. When gluing the magnets in the base, place some wax paper or label liner under the base and press the magnets down so they are flush along the bottom and slightly recessed on the top side.

Place the slide in the base and move it back and forth to confirm smooth clearance. Insert the slide magnet where it is repelled in the middle and attracted in the extended positions (reverse polarity of the center magnet).

Apply glue to the socket for the pin, push the pin into the top of the slide. Press the slide magnet against the pin, the magnet should be slightly recessed. Test the fit of the slide by dry-fitting the top cover, the slide should move freely to both extended positions but resist centering in the block.

After final fit is satisfactory, pop the top cover off and apply glue to the six alignment pegs.
