Description

Easy to make acrylic enclosure. If you can make it easier, remix it.

Tools and materials I have used:

For starting and ending dremel cuts:

  • Cordless drill
  • Drill bit 3.5 mm (4 mm maybe ok)
  • 60 degree spot drill bit (for high precision drilling)

For marking:

  • Milwaukee ultra fine marker
  • Stainless steel ruler

For acrylic sheets cutting:

  • Acrylic cutting knife (can be bought or made from a saw)
  • Straight edge
  • Two bar clamps

For smoothing acrylic sheets edges:

  • File
  • Two sacrificial wood planks (see: How To Cut Acrylic Sheet By Hand - YouTube)
  • Sandpaper 100, 200, 400 grit

For door and round hole

  • Dremel
  • Dremel 678 (can be printed maybe)
  • Dremel 561

Or find your local laser cutting service

Hardware:

  • 3.6 mm thick acrylic sheets
  • 100 mm corrugated ventilation pipe
  • Air vent duct connector flange
  • Clamp for air duct pipe
  • 12x ultra thin flat head stainless steel socket screws m3x12 + wide washers & nuts (any m3 should be ok)
  • 3 mm steel rod (for hinges)

Details to print:

  • Four 3 way piramid angles
  • Four 2 way piramid angles
  • Four hinge parts
  • 4x H-ka supports (brim, vase mode)

Build notes:

  • Use low speed and low pressure for cutting and drilling acrylic sheet
  • Wait until tools cool down
  • Dremel 565 is not perfectly round! Always use same side for straight cut.
  • Always use bar clamps
  • If you find good looking small hinges - buy them, save time
  • Use ear protection (headphones with good isolation - ok)
  • Use eye protection
  • Use lungs protection when sanding

What could be done better:

  • Less sharp pyramid angles
  • Triangular hinge design

Update:

  • Added support element for the top plate (H-ka).
