Bottom Drain Adapter for Bestway Pool

This allows you to add a bottom drain to a Bestway Above Ground Pool for use in conjunction with the Bestway Skimmer.

It is designed to fit the larger Intex return which connects directly to the 38mm threaded hose, https://www.pools.shop/en-UK/intex/connection-set-oe-38mm-73-to-92m3-h.

The wall fitting provides a barbed fitting for the skimmer pipe and a socket for 32mm push-fit pipe, https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-push-fit-pipe-white-32mm-x-3m/26334. 32mm solvent pipe will not fit as it has a different outer diameter. I did leave the recess for an o-ring, which fitted perfectly in my x-y plane test print, but did not fit when the final item printed in the y-z plane.

The grate is two parts that clip together with a hole to take the length of push-fit pipe.

The bottom drain socket has a flow restrictor in it, this allows you to use this adapter, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5441996, to connect a vacuum to the skimmer and therefore leave the plumbing undisturbed. (Simplified remix attached that only has the 32mm connector).

I printed this is black PLA+ as that is what I had to hand, I'll report back at the end of the season on how well it has survived. It should probably be printed in PETG if you want it to last.

Update 08/09/2023, the PLA+ nut has delaminated and the pipe socket on the flange has split. So it lasted about 6 weeks, no real surprise as I didn't expect PLA to last in chlorinated water. Will try again in PETG, but probably next season now.

Update for 2024 - I have added a one-piece design, you will need to adjust your outlet in the pool to get the downpipe positioned correctly, but it shouldn't need as much tension and hopefully won't delaminate. It will obviously need some extra support when printing.

Further Update 2024, I have created a V3, this is designed to use a pushfit 90 degree bend (instead of trying to print one) and has a pipe clip to hold it still. I have now successfully printed this in PETG and it holds the pipe bend securely.

Update for 2025 - New v4 has a two piece clip to hold the down pipe.
