Description

Every year my local pub (The Wheatsheaf, Tattingstone, UK) does fundraising for charity. This year we have been raising money for our local mental health charity, Suffolk Mind. My contribution has been to make and sell stands for petanque boule at a slightly excessive price, with all proceeds going to the charity.

The design for these boule stands can be bought on Cults - again, all proceeds from sales go to the charity.

I started off by just carrying around a bundle of boule stands and hoping that people would be interested, but a few days ago we had a competition with players coming from all around the region so I decided to try a bit harder. The result was this simple design for holding up to 8 stands, to show them off a bit. My print is a bit "rough and ready" but it was designed for use, not to look pretty!

Aluminium tube was used for the main stem - the label said "25mm diameter", but in reality it was 1 inch (25.4mm) - with a wall thickness of 1.6mm (I suspect it was really 1/16"). This is the sort of anodised aluminium tube commonly found in hardware stores. Any rigid plastic or metal tube could be used, but some adjustment may be necessary to make it work.

I made a card to fit into the slot in the top of the plug, and glued an image I'd printed onto it.

I have included 2 test files to make sure that everything will fit together properly before printing the whole thing: test.stl is a ring that should be an easy sliding fit over the tube, and plug_test.stl should be an easy fit into the end of the tube. Ideally, modify the OpenSCAD code to get these to fit correctly, or scale them appropriately in the slicer (remembering to apply the same scaling factor to the base or the plug, as required).

If you want to modify the OpenSCAD code then you will have to download the chamfer library from ThingiVerse. I renamed this library file to chamfer.scad for convenience.
