Description
This is a remix of the Build-A-VAWT parts from Christopher's Factory, to create ten sections 20mm high with a 20mm twist, and then cut away parts to leave a spherical shape. This uses a couple of 608RS low-friction (ABEC 11) bearings, but it works even better with ceramic ones. The video shows it in the garden on an early September day with a very light breeze, and is real-time speed.
The core diameters and related dimensions are the same as Christopher's, including the joints, so the parts are stackable with his Build-A-VAWT, but the turbine blades are slightly wider because I wanted to make a sphere of 200mm diameter. My remix doesn't have bearing recesses in every section, only in the top and bottom caps. The top cap is hat-shaped to continue the 100mm radius of the main turbine sections, and designed to divert rain away from the bearings and shaft if the VAWT is mounted from above.
