Description
Living in a small apartment with poor ventilation and the expensive commercial alternatives, I set out to design and build a cheap and equally good fume extractor for my LaserPecker 4 and dedicate it to the community in hope that it would save lungs.
I've put a good few weeks of work into this and have gone through several iterations trying different filters. One of my requirements was a round body so I was looking for round filters and in a small enough form factor. Ultimately I stumbled upon the idea of using face mask filters! They are inexpensive, very well documented and tested and easy to find/replace. I've used the world class Swedish brand Sundström.
DISCLAIMER: I'm neither a toxicologist nor a chemist and I have no access to the required equipment to truly measure and analyze the efficiency of the device. I have however seen a significant reduction in the odors and smoke produced when lasering while the device is on. Do your own reasearch, read the filter datasheets and use it at your own risk. If you have access to lab equipment to analyze the air quality, please do share your results and I'll add them here.
