For the Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals - Repairs the main plastic shaft and slide piece of each pedal and adds strength. For when you have braked too hard trying to stop an aircraft sliding off the runway.
This repair strengthens the shaft and fixes a split in the plastic.
Required accessories
- Drill with 2.5mm, 4mm drill bits and (optional) countersink drill bit.
- M3 x 15mm (ish) self-tapping screws x 5
- M4 x 10mm countersunk bolts and M4 Nuts x 2 each (optional)
Instructions
- Take the rudders apart (a lot of screws), knurled foot rest needs to be forcibly levered off to get access to the screws - https://forum.dcs.world/topic/134666-satiek-combat-pedals-toe-brake-take-apart
- Unplug the potentiometer and pull the wire through the broken part so you can then unplug the pedal from the shaft.
- With that out of the way extract the plastic slider/shaft part from the pedal body and you can add the repair part.
- Print out the repair part and press fit it up inside the shaft from the bottom.
- Use the 5 holes as a template and carefully drill some 15mm holes with the 2.5mm drill bit up the shaft body. The shaft is slightly tapered and narrower at the top so don’t drill too far up or you will come out the outside of the shaft.
- Screw in the 5 screws and the baseplate should now be fully connected to the shaft again.
- As belt and braces you can bolt the repair part to the baseplate with the M4 nuts and bolts. To do this drill through the other 2 holes as a template with the 4mm drill bit. Then from the top side use the countersink bit to allow the countersunk bolts to sit flush with the top of the baseplate.
- Tighten down the nuts onto the bolts form the bottom
- Refit everything back together making sure not to snag the wires from the potentiometer.
Pictures added which show progress at various stages. I had previously tried to fix this with just 2 self-tapping screws (one very squint!) in a hurry thinking I could order a replacement part. That failed after a year so decided to do it properly.
