PET bottle cap cutter

The EU Directive 2019/904 requires single-use plastic beverage bottles with a capacity of up to 3 liters to be fitted with caps that remain on the container. Those pesky contraptions are always in the way when pouring or drinking out of the bottle. If you tear off the lid, a pointy plastic thorn remains.

Now there is a solution: Together with a glued-in piece of a standard 9 mm paper cutter blade you can use this tool to cut open PET bottles to get rid of the annoying bottle cap tethering the EU brought upon us. The lid can be screwed on and off as it should after the clean separation.

This is my first prototype. Comments welcome.

Update: V 1.1 cuts 1 mm deeper, so less force should be necessary.

Flaschendeckelschneider für PET-Flaschen

Die EU-Richtlinie 2019/904 schreibt vor, dass Kunststoffflaschen mit bis zu 3 l Inhalt mit unverlierbaren Deckeln auszustatten sind. Diese lästigen Vorrichtungen sorgen dafür, dass der Deckel beim Trinken oder Ausgießen immer im Wege ist. Reißt man den Deckel einfach ab, bleiben spitze Plastikdorne zurück.

Jetzt gibt es eine Lösung: Zusammen mit einem eingeklebten Stück 9-mm-Abbrechklinge lässt sich dieses Werkzeug nutzen, um den „unverlierbaren“ Deckel von PET-Flaschen sauber abzuschneiden. Der Deckel kann anschließend ganz normal verwendet werden.

Dies ist der erste Prototyp. Kommentare willkommen.

Update: Auf mehrfachen Wunsch gibt es nun V 1.1 mit 1 mm mehr Schnitttiefe, sodass weniger Druck auf das Messer notwendig ist.
