Upgraded Ford Battery Hold Down, Optima Red Top

I upgraded my truck battery to an Optima Red Top, but the OEM Ford battery wedge was much too small to secure the battery to the tray.

I designed this upgraded battery wedge to be compatible with the Optima batteries. It's wider (towards the battery), and a little bit shorter (in height) to make sure you can get a good grip on the base of an Optima battery. I can now grab onto the battery and shake the entire truck without the battery sliding around in the tray.

I recommend printing this with TPU, moderate infill, and make the bottom 15-20 layers extra thick solid as this is what the bolt/washer will clamp down on (the bottom layer will become the top of the wedge once installed). The thicker you make the bottom layer the less the TPU will deform while under pressure when tightening this down on the battery.

I'm using this on my 2002 Ford Ranger, but I think this is a pretty common battery mounting design for a lot of Ford vehicles. It may work for your car or truck as well.
The Dorman part number that this design was based off of is 00588, check to see if your vehicle lists the same battery hold down part number, before printing.
