Ashitaka`s Sword High Detail Version

24/9 just realised i never updated the picture for this sword. whilst cool i still prefer the low detail version. i really messed up on the painting so only half love it

17/06 i have actually glued this up now, so sanded, going to put some filler on it later, but annoying my new paint booth isn't set up yet.... it's just one thing after another

26/05 the reprint has sat in pieces in my living room for like 4 weeks now waiting for me to take pictures and video of it. I'm in the process of having my garden redone so that I have a nice big spray painting booth that I can use in the rain. so nice pictures will come soon.

31/03 currently reprinting this one, so new pictures will come out soon. (i've just run out of filament so waiting for payday).

23/02 thought I'd show a picture of the 50% scale sword I've been testing the blade tips with and revisions of grips and the blade. I've removed a lot of the artifacts from the grips so shouldn't throw errors, the pummel took me like 3 hours fixing broken verticies, purely because I didn't believe I could recreate the shape from scratch. blade has gained a curve, and the tip is a 50:50 between what is shown in the film, and what kinda makes sense in shape of the blade. Since moving to 50% scale for prototyping I'm able to print so much more, so I'm printing a new fullsized sword in between new BroadSword pieces and final full sized pieces of the Long Sword designs I've done.

19/02 so blade_tip number 4 has won my heart, shame the movie doesn't have a close up of it, but i'm happy with the design, also found out if i had 6mm dowels I could print it half size, and my god it is adorable, also being able to print the tips in 45mins instead of 2+ hours was a god send with my limited time. I've also amended all model files so they shouldn't have glitches and added a bevel to the blade to remove the harsh line that I wasn't 100% with. I also updated this model to run dual cores so that it is easier to align and stronger. Can't wait to sand and paint this miniature, I have like 8 variations of long sword I want to make, which with the miniatures will make this a whole lot easier and mean it won't be too long until I can print this full scale.

17/02 - I printed the blade tip and wasn't happy. so have 3 variations ready to print at 50% size. so will update the files once i've happy,

16/02/2024 - Have redesigned the majority of this, new blade, new grip. have got the files sorted, so will upload those later today. Unfortunately for my printer it's going to be 27 hours worth of printing. so it'll be a while until it's printed, sanded and printed.

okay have to start off with, do not print this at double printer speed at 0.3mm layer height and only 2 walls. I was just too impatient and wanted to see how the grip looked.

I accidentally broke the handle whilst sanding it, so have just glued it back together and done a quick paint job to show. I'll keep this as Work In Progress as I may change the way you print the grip to add more strength or whether just printing it normally is okay. Also going to see which orientation is best for the blade, just incase having the layers in line with the wooden core would work best or not.

This version of the sword is based on the close up at around 90minutes in the film. which doesn't match, I rewatched the film after printing and uploading v1 of the sword and realised there are maybe 4 variations in design throughout the run time. but when i saw this cool pummel design of it folding back into the grip I knew I had to have a go.

Overall length is about 70cm (shoulder to hip, for me based on the movie proportions against Ashitaka),

Blade: 4x Blade & 1 Blade_Tip,

Handle: 1x Spacer, 1x Handle_Upper & 1 Handle_Lower

the close up shows the tang of the blade goes into the handle, so it's up to you whether you have that little gap between the blade and the handle

This design has a 13mm tube running through the middle so that it's main structure comes from a 12mm wooden dowel which i picked up from a hardware store.

15/11/24 So i'm terrible at self promotion, so only realised that only my latest posts have any info about this, but many people asked me if they could request models or if i had a patreon, so I went out and made one. I'm still amazed that I get tips from this website as I've done all of these because I want to make them, and as I get better at modelling I scrap what I've made and make it better.
