Expandable Moog Profile Eurorack Case

Overview

This is a modular and expandable Eurorack case with the slanted Moog profile. Ideal if you have a Mother-32 or any other 60hp synth by Moog and want to expand it by making a longer case or adding another case and build a two or three tier.

Available modules

• Left → 30 and 45hp
• Right → 30 and 45hp
• Middle (optional) → 12, 18, 20, 24, 30, 36 and 42hp

The 45hp left section has a 4hp rear module slot to fit a power module without taking space in the front of the rack. I recommend using a 4ms Power Row, this way you can daisy chain them if you build a 2 or 3 tier rack.

Possible length combinations

To build a case, you must use a left and right section. Optionally, you can add middle sections to make most common hp lengths.

Here's some of the possible combinations:

• 60hp → 30L + 30R
• 84hp → 30L + 24M + 30R
• 90hp → 45L + 45R
• 104hp → 30L + 20M + 24M + 30R
• 126hp → 45L + 36M + 45R
• 150hp → 45L + 30M + 30M + 45R
• 168hp → 45L + 36M + 42M + 45R

Many more combinations are possible, but I suggest not combining more than 4 sections to not weaken the case.

Parts needed

• Square nuts
• M3x10 screws (four per joint)
• M3.5x12 screws (four per side plate)
• Moog wooden side plate and metal spacer (there's an stl version included if you prefer to print it)

Side plates and rubber feet

The side plate holes match the ones in Moog cases. If you have any of the Moog studio synths and want to expand into eurorack, you can reuse the wooden side plates of your Mother-32, Subharmonicon or DFAM. Otherwise you can print the included side plate files.

The bottom of the case has two recesses that fit standard square 10mm or 12.7mm 3M rubber feet.

Assembly

All sections slide into each other and are fixed using M3x10 flathead screws (the ones with the conic head) and square nuts. The flathead screws sit flush on the case. The joint is rock solid and has no play at all.

For the Eurorack rails, use the same M3 square nuts and you're good to go.

The side plates use M3.5x12 screws. The holes aren't threaded. They will self tap as you screw those in. Be careful to not over tighten. Otherwise, use a brass insert.

Future updates

In the future, I'd like to add:

• A two and three tier stand
• Single piece >60hp modules to be printed as a single piece

Printer settings

• 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layer height
• 100m/s speed for the outer wall (there's many sharp corners and it's best to avoid bulging corners)
• No support: place it vertically with the side plate side facing the printer's plate
• 10% gyroid infill
• Make sure your printer is well calibrated or the parts might not fit. The joint assembly is modeled with a .2mm tolerance. It will be no problem if your printer is well calibrated. I suggest you test your printer settings with the joint alone and test the fit before printing a larger section.
