1300 RPM One way manual drill with chuck up to 6 mm

I came across a "straight one-way manual hand drill" by "zhwang168" "https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4740760". I really liked his design so I followed his tutorial and made a bit wider and longer version with space for a 608RS ball bearing on top.

I needed a chuck for this hand drill and the one I found on Printables matched exactly my requirements: "https://www.printables.com/model/309930-ez-drill-chuck". It can hold drills from 1,2mm up to 6,35 mm. I slightly modified it by adding a hexagon to the end so that I can attach it to the two way screw. I also renamed the parts to fit in my numbering but everything except "EZChuck-base.stl" is still the same. My name is MAN_DRILL-01-03.

The one way drill consists of multi thread two way screw with a clutch that ensures that the drill is always rotating clockwise (or always anticlockwise if you rotate the nut assembly the other way around). On top by using one DIN934 - M5 nut and one DIN912 M5x18 bolt you attach a 608RS ball bearing that has a snap on cover for easy rotating holder.

With one stroke the drill rotates four times so one up and down motion makes it 8 times. In 10 seconds I managed to do 28 “up and downs” so that makes it 1344 RPM (2886)

The screw is assembled according to the second picture. For better action use some kind of lube.

Then it is only a matter of attaching the drill chuck to the two way screw. The rotational movement is transmitted through the hex adapter so you can use a small piece of filament with lighter melted ends to secure it axially. For a cleaner look you can use a split pin DIN 94-2x22. This way I hope to try other 3d printed chuck or attach different attachments.

This hand drill works well with smaller diameter drill bits around (3 mm) in wood, plastics and even in softer metals like aluminium and copper/brass. Bigger diameter drill bits (6 mm) are too aggressive. So to drill larger holes just slowly increase the diameter of the hole or grind more shallow angle on the larger drill bits.

If the drill bit ever gets stuck, it is easy to hold the whole drill by the two way screw and rotate it clockwise a little bit by hand to break off the shavings.

Print the drill chuck according to the instructions on the printables with added supports around the hex adapter. The hole does not need supports.
The drill was done entirely from PLA and was quite easy. The only part which might be a problem is the two-way screw - MAN_DRILL-02-01. It is best to print it standing up and it is quite thin and long (it fits PRUSA MK3S bed). It is also advised to use supports in the hole for the nut. Rest of the parts are printed also standing up but these does not need supports.
