Description
Although our new VW T6.1 Camper had two cup holders integrated into the corners of the dashboard, they were a bit small to hold bottles, especially Sigg bottles.
Therefore I designed bottle holders to mount a the door or at the middle console. They are just hooked in and do not need any glue or screws - i.e. they can also be removed any time without leaving any trace (e.g. if you have a rental). And sometimes they are used as passenger seat by tiny passengers :-)
As we mainly use Sigg bottles I made them especially for that size. Inner diameter of 73mm seemed to be perfect for these bottles, if they are relatively new and still perfect shape. But then I decided for 74mm and extra loose fit as some of our bottles already have some little dents and bruises and should easily be taken out without lifting the whole holder off the car.
For normal water bottles I also created an XL version for the middle console with an inner diameter of 81mm. If you need different diameters, leave a comment and I will upload modifications with different diameters.
The door holder consists in two versions. Type A has just a hook and can freely be moved along the side compartment. Type B has an extra ‘nose’ at the bottom to prevent lifting the holder accidentally off the door with the bottle. Downside of this type: it can only be moved partially as the wall of the side compartment doesn't have constant height, but increases towards the back. Therefore type B can only be moved approx. to the middle of the compartment.
To reduce the amount of necessary support, you can also print the holders in two parts (hook and basket), which are connected with a spread dove tail, i.e. the parts can be connected without glue.
So far I have only tested them during a short vacation of one week and they worked very well.
Update 2025-10-03: As requested by Tobi85HH I have added door holders with an inner diameter of 78mm (both type A and B and both as single model (holder) and split model (baske+hook) to reduce required support.
As requested by SimonBob I have added a special version of door holder Type B with a reinforced middle bar, which is 50% wider and also has a little belly to make it stronger. I never had an issue like this but obviously the middle bar of his prints broke frequently . These models are marked with _rmb and are available as complete holder or split version as hook+basket
This model is also available on Printables. see there if you want to see all model images - unfortunately Thingiverse did not generate 3D images of all uploaded models here. Especially the hooks are not shown for whatever reason. The model files are the same on both sites^
I've been contacted by another user who has a slightly different cockpit in hist T6.1 (no wireless phone charging and USB ports are on the side, not in front). I've uploaded some experimental models for him - all named "..Martin". Please ignore these for now, I will upload the final version once new new variant really fits into his car. (I don't have access to such a car, i.e. we are doing trial and error remote design here)
