Master Sword Remix

Remix of Thingavan's Master Sword, Plus a mount I designed for it to hang off of on your wall, if you don't want to make a stone pedestal for it. Mount will be separate just in case you want just the Master Sword.

By the way, this is way too heavy to be a cosplay item, the balance is off quite a bit. There are two 1/4 inch steel rods running through it and it is heavy. I would recommend for cosplay making the blade with a golf club shaft and only have the rods going through the handle. Up to you though.

So, after scouring Thingiverse, I landed upon Thingavan's. By far the best looking one I've seen. But it had some issues unfortunately. Mainly the triforce blade piece didn't have holes, and the handle wasn't black, since I wanted to do my own green wrap on it. So I went to work in Tinkercad. First thing I did was combine his two crossguard pieces and split it down the middle vertically, since I figured that would be better overall. I will say it is harder trying to line it up, but some sanding and filling makes it work. Then I made the diamond more pronounced. and the blade collar, those little gold accents that stick out a bit. As well, the handle is a 3/4 inch pvc pipe, and the outside is almost 6 inches of actual pipe. You can make it shorter or longer, just print out another handle core and cut it down.

Overall, mine is almost 40 inches long, with a 28 inch blade and almost a 12 inch handle, measured from that gold blade collar. I printed out 2 crossguard halves, 5 regular blade pieces, which are 3 inches tall, and one short piece, and obviously the triforce piece and tip. You can print out more or less based on your preference, as well as make the handle longer or shorter. Keep in mind the crossguard and pommel have some room for the pipe so its not exactly gonna be 6 inches of pipe, more like 6.5 or 7 inches. The handle core is 6 inches exactly, so you'll need to print 2 if you want a 6 inch handle, and just cut off an inch off the second handle core.

So the materials you'll need are two 1/4 inch steel rods of equal length, probably less than 4 feet, a 3/4 inch pvc pipe, about 7 inches or so. Some green ribbon or leather or cord, depending on what you want. I found a master sword wrap template and then marked it out and super glued the ribbon to the pipe. Filler primer, wood filler, sandpaper, files, basic stuff to smooth out the print lines. You might also need a drill to drill out the holes, as they are quite tight.

I would recommend you put the blade pieces on first, then the handle bits last. Also to do light coats of filler primer then sand over it and get back down to the plastic then do it again. Use the wood filler for the big gaps, like between the crossguard halves and the blade pieces. I used a metallic blue and gold acrylic for the paint, since I didn't feel like buying a blue spray paint for this one project, and I think it turned out well. Definitely prime the pvc with a spraypaint primer, I didn't do that, and my acrylic scratches off easily. Just use painters tape to mark off where you will glue the green wrap down. I also rounded off the tip just because I accidently broke it.
