Description

V4 - 8-13-24 - initial release

I recently designed tuners for my 3D printed ukulele. They worked pretty well, but there were some things that I wasn't wild about. Especially the two part washer that was used to hold the tuning peg in place.

This new model has been designed to get rid of the washer and also be significantly stronger. Even with the redesign, it is probably better to avoid weaker filaments for tuner mechanisms, like silk, for example.

The hole spacing, sizes, and screws used were designed so the tuners could be used as a drop in replacement for Grover ukulele tuners, 9NB.

If you would like a ukulele to go along with your tuners, you can print my soprano ukulele :
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6534108

All parts were printed in PLA with 0.12 nm resolution, 5 shells, and 50% infill for strength. I use a brim for the tuner knob and worm gear.

Number 2 3/8'' wood screws were used to screw attach the tuner to the ukulele, and attach the tuner cover to the tuner base.

For each tuner, you will need one of each of the parts:
tuner base
tuner cover
worm gear
tuner gear

Assembly :

Glue the tuner knob to the worm gear. I used Gorilla brand superglue gel.

Screw the base to the ukulele headstock using two, #2 3/8'' wood screws. Place the worm gear and tuner gear into the base. Fit the cover over the base, worm gear, and tuner gear and slide the tab of the cover into the slot of the base. It will help to push the gear up slightly while doing this. Everything should fit easily together. Then screw the cover to the base using two, #2 3/8'' wood screws.
