Description

I found filament was wearing a groove into the filament runout sensor on my Sovol SV07 Plus. Sovol does not list this as an available part on their website*, so I made this press-fit sacrificial guide that fits over the sensor, directing the filament straight down into the original hole. When it wears, I can quickly print a new one.

Note that 95% of my printing is PLA. This is not due to printing abrasive filaments!

I printed it in PLA, and I expect it will gradually wear too. When I have time, I plan to increase the hole size for a brass nutsert, drilled out to remove the threads. But as-is it works and is cheap to replace as required.

Update:

As I kind of suspected, filament started wearing a groove into the plastic-only Mk1 version. The Mk2 version incorporates an M2.5 brass thread insert, with the threads drilled out with a 3/32" drill bit and the hole chamfered with a larger drill bit. I then filed everything smooth with a tiny diamond needle file. This is working extremely well, even with abrasive filaments. I'll leave the Mk1 files for those that don't have the necessary insert at hand, but highly recommend the Mk2 version.

This may fit other models in that family such as the SV06 Plus and
SV07. The SV08 sensor appears different and this will probably not fit.

Freecad design files included if you need to customize it.

  • this may be an oversight. The one listed for the SV06 looks identical.
