Garage Door Floor Weather Seal Tile

I created this garage door seal as a replacement. i purchased one off Amazon about 2 years ago. Since that one is neoprene, it wore out and started cracking. I figured TPU would probably hold up better. Also if one fails, I don't want to have to replace the entire seal. I can replace them one at a time and save a ton of money. Furthermore, it cost about same as the neoprene to print my own. I only used one 1kg roll of TPU for a 12ft garage door plus a few extras just incase.

• Before installing dry fit the entire seal. Trim as needed.

• Put a piece of guide tape down after everything is dry fit. This way, you know where to put the tiles.

• Make sure the garage door seal touches the first 1/3rd of the thin side of the floor seal tile. Do not install garage door seal touching the top crest of the seal tile. It will not seal correctly. See photos on how you much install these.

• Sweep the floor where you are going to glue it down.

• After sweeping, clean the floor with a quick drying solvent. Acetone or brake cleaner works well.

• When installing the seals, make sure you lay each seal tile down about an inch away, then sliding it into the alignment fingers. A little back and fourth motion will spread out the silicone well.

• The Silicone: I use is Dow Corning 732 RTV Aircraft silicone. The silicone I used on the previous neoprene seal was 3M windshield sealant. However, i had to reseal it about 6 months ago. But I think that was because the seal was failing. I use this Dow Corning silicone for resealing three piece split wheels and it's very strong. It will hold 40-50psi air pressure with no problem. So keeping out water should do good. Don't use anything that is latex or for interior use. It needs to be a solvent based silicone.

• For this 12ft door, I only needed one tube of silicone RTV. I also had enough to follow it up with the outside follow up sealing as well.

• After it's finished curing - wait a few days - put a small bead on the outside lip and press it down with your finger, then wipe off any excess.
