A nice little teaching aide, extended to demonstrate higher gear ratios possible by allowing the tooth count of the roller to differ. An order of magnitude greater reduction is possible for the same gear size. https://youtu.be/8VPYJXBb1Lc

eg. 95 and 103 teeth paired with 12 and 13 teeth respectively. The ratios 103:13 and 95:12 is as close as we can get it since 103x12-95x13=1236-1235=1 or 1236:1

eg. 10 and 11 teeth paired with 9 and 10 respectively gives 10:9 and 11:10 with 10x10-11x9=100-99=1 for 100:1

I don’t think the original eccentric gear was serving its intended purpose. Presumably it was included to compensate for different gear radii when using fixed gear pitch - a historical manufacturing limitation. It does not succeed at that in this configuration as the offset is not aligned with the handle at all times - both gears turn relative to the roller and must be circular. The eccentricity is counterproductive and doubles the misalignment on the opposite side. Perhaps an offset axle connected to the handle could work, but it is far easier to correct the pitch directly and use a common axis.
