The beauty of this mount (as well as the original design) is that it mounts to the bed, keeping the print itself in a static frame of reference so you can actually get stable timelapse captures. Example: https://youtu.be/dTZX642oq4A
This updated design uses the same key to fit into the bed, but makes the following changes:
- breaks up the design into separate pieces
- moves the camera mount off to the side
Benefits of change 1:
- easier printing with less support needed
- reversible design so the mount can be used on the left or right side of the enclosure (or on both if desired)
- ability to configure the camera angle by swiveling the top mount and using a set screw.
- the design easily can be modified by others to use different camera mounts (mating point is just a 15mm diameter/7mm high cylinder)
Benefits of change 2:
- no points of collision with the print head anywhere on the bed, so the full print bed can be used and there is no need to set up print jobs to avoid any particular area
- the print bed can be easily removed without moving or colliding with the camera mount. This is especially handy if using the magnetic print bed which needs to be removed after every print.
Hardware needed:
- 2 M4 x 25 bolts (to connect the key to the arm)
- 2 M4 nuts (to connect the key to the arm)
- 1 M3 x 6 screw for the GoPro mount set screw
Printing tips:
- You will need 2 dovetail sliders. I liked the quality when printing them on end with a brim.
- PETG recommended
I'm using Logitech C270 webcam modded to adapt to a GoPro mount for this (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3748407) so I am not testing this with an actual GoPro but I think it should probably work just the same.
Update: Added a new mount that is a bit taller to get a higher up angle. Here is the timelapse print using the original mount of the long mount. Very meta: https://youtu.be/As4MG2G30mc
