I watched a video from one of my favorite YouTube content creators: Pask Makes.

I thought the joinery and complexity of the ship's wheel was super cool, but lacked the skill/lathe to do a lot of the things that he did. I do a lot of design work in CAD for work and on the side, so decided to design my own. I have added several pictures to show you how I assembled it. This was a Christmas gift for my parents to hang in their lake cottage. The center of the hub was designed to work with a large bearing that I had, but I have also included a spacer that you can use to mount it directly to the wall. This was designed to be used with a 1/2" bamboo dowel running through the center of each of the spokes to add strength/help keep everything in line while gluing it together. The holes around the outside of the hub are meant to use 1/4-20 brass tapered heat set inserts and 1/4-20 screws (I also used brass). I used my laser cutter to make the plate for the front of the hub that has the name/outline of the lake that my parents own property on. I used Hatchbox wood PLA and printed this on my Bambu X1C using Bambu PLA-CF settings. I dried the filament before use at about 55-60C for 8-12 hours or so. Sometimes I fed from the filament dryer, but sometimes I also fed the filament directly from the AMS. I only had one nozzle jam after 4-5 full spools of this filament. I sanded all of the pieces with 100-120 grit sandpaper and coated everything with a mahogany gel stain. I wanted to darken it up a bit more, so I also rubbed everything down with some raw umber oil based paint and wiped some away. The print orientation, sanding lines, and wood filament gave this a very convincing "wood" look. Many people that have seen it do not believe that it's 3D printed. I will include links below for the gel stain, oil paint, brass screws, and bamboo dowels. All of my parts were designed in inches, so if this shows up small in your slicing software, you will need to multiply the scale by 25.4. Let me know what you think and post those makes!
