Why on earth did I design another bird feeder?:
Reason 1:
After learning that tallow balls for birds shouldn't be hung in nets and not wanting to buy a rainproof bird feeder with a catch tray for 40 EUR, I thought to myself – I'll design it myself.
Reason 2:
I like great tits ... i mean those little birds - not what you think :-)
General description:
This is a bird feeder specifically for fat balls, consisting of three parts.
The top part is connected to the base part and clicks into place. The cap is secured by twisting.
My focus areas in designing:
- Printable without supports (only three small supports for the CAP are required)
- Protection of bird feed from rain
- As little bird feed as possible should fall down
- Stable suspension with three points to prevent the bird feeder from swinging in the wind or when birds land and take off.
- It doesn't have to win a beauty contest – functionality and printability are the main focus
Technical date:
- maximum tallow ball diameter: 6 cm
- roof diameter: 17,2 cm
- total height: 9,5 cm
Printer setup:
- Resolution 0,15mm
- Infill 15%
- No Supports for TOP and BASE parts
Post printing:
The locking of the top part into the bottom part works, but I wouldn't rely on sufficient load-bearing capacity. Therefore, I welded the five locking pins on the underside to the bottom part at 200°C. Of course your could also use glue instead.
