Description

Well, the Scorpion needed a companion, so here's the Samson. I had already designed a Samson a while back, but it wasn't proportioned correctly, had some big issues, and most importantly, the rotors barely even worked. So now, I redesigned it so that it works just as well as the Scorpion!

That's right, the fiddly joint is no more.

Instead, it works just like the Scorpion, where you assemble the two halves of the fuselage around the rotors to lock them in place. Aside from the functional improvements, the model received a lot of quality-of-life improvements! For example, the landing skids now have pegs so that they're easier to place. Moreover, I redesigned them from scratch, and added the searchlights (or whatever they are) on the underside. They're a detail that I noticed later when rewatching the film, and I had to add them. I widened the fuselage a bit, smoothed out the overall shape, added some antennas, and the cockpit windows were made more accurate to the movies. Another thing you'll notice, is that now the Samson has 3 variants for the fuselage! One variant has the doors sealed shut, one variant has the doors open, and one has the doors completely removed. I added some files for the side Hydra 50 cals if you decide to print the model with the doors open. If you do, I highly recommend you paint the interior BEFORE assembling the fuselage halves.

I test printed the model, just like the Scorpion. The pictures of the painted version is my test print, and I also included some pictures of the variant with open doors (unpainted.)

To assemble the rotors, do so as you did for the Scorpion. In case you didn't do that, then I'll copy-paste the instructions from there-

Assembling each rotor is quite simple, first you grab all the parts you need-

1 Propeller hub
2 Propellers
1 Propeller Axle
1 Rotor

Step 1. Place down the propeller axle, with the pin facing up.
Step 2. Slide a propeller onto the pin. letting it rest on top of the axle as a stopper. Do not glue it.
Step 3. Slide this assembly through the center hole of the Rotor casing, and do not glue it.
Step 4. Place another propeller onto the exposed pin, do not glue.
Step 5. Glue the propeller hub on top of the pin, finishing the assembly.

Do these steps again for the second rotor. After assembly, the cross section of the model should be- (in ascending order)
Hub
Propeller
Rotor
Propeller
Axle
(The pin should run through the center of all of them.)

-Anyways, so yeah. Then, you take the rotors and place them loosely on the slots in the tail. Then, glue the fuselage pin into place in the center. Then, finally, you can glue on the nose of the aircraft. Make sure to hold it real tight with a clamp, or rubber bands.

Finally, you can glue on the skids.

NOTE: I highly recommend that you don't assemble the model in this order! If you want to paint it, then first attach the unassembled rotors to the fuselage. Once it's done, go ahead and paint the model, keeping the propellers separate. Once it's all painted, THEN you can finish the assembly. I hope I was clear enough.

If you have any questions, leave a comment I guess.

Also, Seawasp soon??????? :3
