Description
I recently purchased a cheap Chinese heads-up speed display for my Mini Cooper. It's branded under many names including Wying, Xiaomi and M1/M2/M3 and probably many more. It works very well and my only criticism is that it's a little ugly (which isn't an issue at a purchase price under $10 for the GPS version).
I've made a housing that fits snugly and allows a flush mounting on the dash with a little double-sided tape. I will probably hit it with a coat of high-fill primer and a coat of black paint to make it look a little more integrated with the dash but for now, I'm happy.
It's the best I can do with my rudimentary skills on Tinkercad so if anyone feels the need to take the model and make it look smoother/nicer/more functional, please do and share the updated model. Remixes encouraged.
I'll include the parametric model of the hole that the unit sits in to aid anyone who wants to remix it. The unit fits snugly and at a perfect height and angle to optimise the reflection on the windscreen.
I have been driving with it fitted for a couple of weeks now and can confirm that you don't need the reflective screen sticker that comes with the unit fitted to the windscreen. The sticker does improve the visibility of the display in bright sunlight but it makes the display too bright at night, even with the auto dimming function at maximum. It is much less distracting without the sticker on the windscreen and it looks nicer and more integrated without it. I love this unit and can now easily see the speed of my car without my eye glasses on.
Happy motoring.
