Description
Instruction manual PDF is attached.
This dynamic, 3D-printed model demonstrates the function of the piston valve and reversing control of the Baker valve gear on steam locomotives and is based in 1/32 scale. The model is designed to run on G-gauge (45mm) model train tracks and is inspired from an S-2 class 2-8-4 "Berkshire" type steam locomotive (Such as the NKP 765 and 757). External air can be connected to pressurize and actuate the model. The reverser handle at the aft of the model can be used to change direction of the wheels when the cylinders are pressurized. The model can operate on a track or on a stand. The blind driver wheels are necessary to operate the model on model train tracks with radius 1 turns, but the model is recommended to operate on
larger curves.
This model is a culmination of two month's work towards research, modeling, iterating, testing, and making the manual. I wanted to take on a more advanced challenge from my previous Walschaerts model, and I listened to some of the recommendations from viewers to create this model.
I hope that the 3D printing and model train community can take something from this design and iterate on top of this concept of air-powered models.
