Overview
This is a newer version of my previous design.
The goal was to hide the joints between the wall hexes for a much cleaner finish.
This version requires printing the joints separately — a bit more work to set up, but the results speak for themselves.
Assembly Recommendations
- Print shelves ahead of time and assemble everything before mounting on the wall.
- Joint tolerances are tuned for a middle ground — they may feel slightly tight or loose depending on filament used.
- Recommended method:
- Insert 3 joints into one hex.
- Place on a flat surface (floor, desk, etc.).
- Press another hex into the joints.
- Once joined, nothing will feel loose.
- If you want an easier build with fewer parts, try the previous version.
Design Intent
These displays are inspired by other designs I’ve seen online, but I wanted:
- A sleeker look
- Less filament usage
- Stronger connections
- More modular system
Various Inspirations
Notable Changes
- 3 T-slot joints at each connection (instead of 2)
- Filleted edges
- Shelf has:
- Hexagonal shape
- Hexagonal texture for figure grip
- Subtle lip to prevent figures from falling
- Optimized joints for faster printing and less filament but still strong
Specifications
- Designed for standard 4" tall Funko Pops
- Interlocks to form any desired arrangement
- Mounts via a small hole in the corner (expandable with a drill if needed)
- Prints flat on the bed — no supports needed (except for some corner variants)
- Best when used with multiple hexes — won’t hang level as a single unit
Corner & Shelf Variants
- NoShelf version available
- Corner transition options for 90° wall turns:
- Corner_NoShelf – One-piece print, requires supports
- Corner_Split_Sym_NoShelf – Two mirrored pieces, no supports, joined with L-joints. Print 2
- Requires 1 set of L-joints
- Corner with Shelf variants:
- Corner_Shelf – One-piece print, requires supports
- Corner_Split_L/R_Shelf – Two mirrored pieces, no supports, joined with L-joints. Print both
- Requires 2 sets of L-joints
- Fits some (but not all) Funko Pops due to smaller shelf space
