This is a modular spice rack for large bottles, like barbecue rubs. DO NOT USE FOR HEAVY, CANNED ITEMS, LIKE CANNED BEANS OR SOUP! (too heavy)
It mounts to the wall, using Molly bolts (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-4-Pack-1-87-in-x-0-125-in-Zinc-Plated-Steel-Light-Duty-All-Purpose-Anchor-with-Screws/1000103137) or drywall anchors (https://www.lowes.com/pd/E-Z-Ancor-4-Pack-Standard-Drywall-Anchor-Screws-Included/1098799), through the tray and mount plate. (4 per columns of trays, one at each corner of each column of trays. Use #6 washers to prevent the screws from pulling through the holes (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-36-Count-x-3-8-in-Stainless-Steel-Standard-SAE-Flat-Washer/3816111).
THERE ARE TWO TRAY DESIGNS,: one that can be built, 1 tray at a time) on a printer with a 300mm x 300mm bed [LCMSR(SP) - Tray (solid floor).stl]. If you have a printer with at least a 420mm x 420mm bed, you can print 4 of the larger trays [LCMSR - Tray (solid floor).stl] in a single print. The connectors and mount plates are compatible with both trays.
The only parts that required supports were the Middle Connectors, which were tilted by selecting a plane that intersects the tip of the boss that plugs into the traps holes and the fillet that runs around the perimeter of the part (see image "Tilt").
To hang:
- snap an end connector to one end of a tray as shown in "Connection locations" image (an end that will NOT have another tray to the left or right of it). Drive a nail into the wall where the mount plate will be centered, to make sure there are no studs or other barriers to installing a Molly bolt.
- snap two mount plates into a tray and an end connector to the back of the tray, near the center of the tray (see "Connection locations" image).
- using a level, hold the tray up to the wall with the mount plates against the wall. If this is NOT the first tray of the ROW, snap this tray onto the previous middle connector on this row
- mark the wall at the center of each mount plate's hole.
- remove tray from wall and install Molly bolts or drywall anchors at each spot marked.
- If using Molly bolts, tighten them to deploy the Molly bolt inside the wall, then remove the screw from the Molly bolt to install the tray and washer.
- If there was a previous tray on this ROW, snap the new tray to the middle connector, just like you did to mark the hole locations for the Molly bolts/drywall anchors. Locate the tray over the Molly bolt/drywall anchor locations, place a washer on the screw and insert the screw through the tray AND mount plates, tightening until snug.
8A) if you ARE going to have another COLUMN of trays, attach a middle connector to the remaining unoccupied end of the tray. RETURN TO STEP #2 to attach next column.
8B) if you are NOT going to have another COLUMN of trays, attach an end connector to the remaining end of the tray. That ends that row of the array.
- For all additional rows, except the bottom row, you will NOT install mount plates, drill holes or use a level. Just snap components to the hanging array just like they are in the previous row. If there will be rows below, you'll need to attach the end and middle connectors just as you did on the row above. This will allow you to attach the next row below.
- the bottom ROW of tray(s) WILL be attached to the wall, just like the top row.
