Description
This flat chess set has been designed as an ultra-portable version of the classic game, aiming to accommodate a variety of preferences from people who may want to print it themselves.
The board is designed to double as a frame that holds all the pieces, minimizing waste to virtually zero.
The original model was created to fit within a 148x148x1.8 mm area, due to the limitations of my own printer, but users can easily scale it to their preferred size. My personal choice was to make the pieces easy to remove and move around, with little to no resistance.
IMPORTANT: Based on the issues I encountered while printing early prototypes, I’ve included a calibration piece that you can test before committing to a full print. For example, if you're scaling the model up, you'll need to adjust the height (Z axis) independently to ensure the pieces still fit correctly. Likewise, if you prefer tighter-fitting pieces that don’t come out as easily, increasing the model's height is also recommended. I strongly suggest testing with the calibration piece first to make sure the final result matches your needs.
You'll also find an alternate version for dual-color printers, as well as a separate file with just the pieces — useful if, like me, you only have a single-color printer and find it distracting when all the pieces look the same.
