Description
(6/22/2025) THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. (It's basically a really awesome skeleton which I needed help to make.) There are a lot of things I love in life, but near the top of that list is BOOKS and DRAGONS. I've wanted to create a Yawning Dragon Bookstand for a while... A few years... but until image-to-3D-model AI was invented, it wasn't going well. Due to lack of talent with 3d builders, a lot of wrist pain, and time. But lucky for me technology improved and AI was able to generate a model for me using an image. Now there can be real progress made on it. This is the base work, not the final project. I'll be making alterations to this and uploading as I go. I'd like to make something suitable for holding books without stabbing them with 3d printed teeth.
Planning for the future (notes for later improvements):
-I'm hoping to make the lower teeth a cradle, and maybe create a space to add a light behind the upper teeth so it looks like fire in the back of the dragons mouth while also acting as a functional reading light.
-I may also go over the eyes with resin, or crate cavities for glass eyes. (Have not decided but going to the fabric market on our vacation anyway.)
-I'll also have to make sure there isn't too much hang over in area's where trees would be difficult to clean, and I'll have to fill in the gap in the tongue (I am no good at doing this kind of smooth transition, most of my work is... kinda blocky but functional. Could use some advice for which programs work better with this.)
-Some of the lower teeth will also have to be shaved for book safety.
-The entire width of the mouth should measure at (at least) 9 inches, as most books are 6x9.
-The tilt of the head will also need to be rotated slightly to allow for more of a comfortable read.
-The whiskers remind me of a cat fish and the fin around it's neck reminds me of a gyarados, so maybe a water dragon (so think ocean tones rather than Dragon Heart).
-I could make recesses and create silicone molds to make resin teeth on top, (might be easier for the printer.)
-Looking at the angle the base may need to be weighted for stability.
-The texture of the base might also make a cool ocean waves if painted correctly (or I could cut it out and do it in resin with the ocean effects... I've never done ocean effects before, that might be fun...)
-scaled down this would also make a fun phone stand.
-would like this to be alterable by others, but I've got to get it saved as an SCAD file first and we just redid my computer so I'm not quite there yet.
I apologize for this project not being finished, but hopefully I'll get some more work done on it soon. (But not too soon because I'm going on vacation in a few days.) I've added a date because we do a lot of crafts at home and I may get side tracked (which is why I'm taking so many notes).
