Rodd Kullernutt Filament Sample Test Guy

Rodd Kullernutt is a little character I made to print and display filament color samples in a fun way.

This is clearly not a printer torture test or showcase of advanced design technique, but the simplicity is intentional. I wanted Rodd to be:

• quick to print, and use very little material
• showcase how a material looks on smooth round surfaces, as well as sharper corners with flat faces
• simple and "safe" to print, needing no brim or supports
• shaped and sized well to be super easy to showcase, if I wanted to set up a display of available filament samples for people to handle in person. (For this, I designed Kullernutt Stadium, a fully printable 4 tier riser that can showcase up to 18 of the little guys. I may make this available later if anyone is interested.)

A few features that developed on the way:

• the eye sockets are sized to accommodate 1x10mm googly eye, and 1x12mm googly eye(optional, but they serve a purpose...)
• The thin area between the eyes can give an indication of how translucent the material is, if you make lamps or lithophanes

Why the option to put googly eyes on a printed filament sample? Because normal googly eyes have a white part and a black part, and if you put them on all your samples, and if you want to take digital photographs of the samples, those known black and white spots can be used to help color, brightness, and contrast be represented accurately. It can also make your photos of different samples consistent by giving you reference colors that should be the same in all the photos, no matter what color the sample is, or what color the "image enhancing" AI on your phone camera is trying to make it look like. But why the 2 sizes? Well, when I was designing Rodd, I decided he needed crazy eyes. If you don't use googly eyes, the little cutout pupils still give him personality and make it look like his eyes are following you. 🤪

I've created a few versions with different labels on the top, in case you want to specify the material of your sample. The model file names indicate the labels on top. The included models are all standalone, so just use the ones that appeal to you.
