I've always loved modding Koss headphones! When the KPH30 Wireless came out, I knew I wanted to try and mod them. After I got them, I was pleasantly surprised by some features - particularly this nice big gap for pads to slot into. A lot of it was bigger, bulkier, more spaced out. It made modding without actually physically modifying the headphones that much easier.
So I wanted to try fitting full sized earpads onto it. Of course, these headphones have this sort of backwards pointing angle to them. So if you just try to put pads on them normally, they just won't fit right. So I opened up Onshape and developed this angled adapter that lets you use small to regular-sized over-the-ear earpads with your KPH30 Wireless.
I couldn't find a way to take the headphones apart yet, so I designed it with these little tabs that can flex and move - they let you stretch the adapter over the driver housing and slot it into place. While I was designing them, I found I really hated how they sounded closed off. And I did not want to go through the process of figuring out how to tune them like that. So I wanted to switch to open back and I got busy designing some holes in it. But then I remembered the oops, all infill, trick for gyroid infill. Air and sound can pass right through it, so I just used infil instead of designing holes. This also made them very open.
This dramatically improves comfort and since in theory your ear should be pretty close to the same spot, it should keep the same sound signature. Its sounded pretty good in my tests. Its not really going to improve the sound. But it will make them open. And honestly openback Bluetooth headphones are incredibly rare.
Works great with:
Layer Height: The thinner the more it helps with overhangs.
Infill: Gyroid for main model
The STL is a single file containing 2 parts:
The gyroid modifier creates openings that allow sound to pass through or be absorbed instead of being reflected. You can tune the sound by using tape or stickers to block openings from the outside!
