Description
Here's an edit of the open-source .step file for the Pi Tin that makes it so that the case magnetically stays closed and the hinge magnetically stays open while the system is in use. I also made an original magnetic belt holster for this version of the Pi Tin that capitalized on the case's new magnets.
There are two versions of the Pi Tin's top: one with and one without a simple Metroid logo. The logo is designed to print on the first layer, so the indent for it is tiny. To paint in the logo, choose the fill bucket, then pick the “edge detection” option, and decrease the “smart fill angle”. I've included a screenshot of this in Bambu Studio for reference. I should note that it's easy to make your own version of the top with a logo for, like, a pokeball or various other classic games by searching online for an .svg file and importing it into the original project's .step file.
I've also included some small pins that helped me while I was soldering the RPi Zero 2 to the custom PCB.
Materials:
• PLA
• Pi Tin 3D-printed version kit
• Glue Glue
• 3x M3 Washers
• 7x 10x5x2mm rectangular magnets
• 3x 20x10x3mm rectangular magnets
Everything was printed at a layer height of 0.2mm. Use normal supports that only extend from the base plate (you don't want supports inside the horizontal screw holes). The holster doesn't necessarily require supports.
For assembly tips/instructions for magnets, ping me and I'll add some more notes to this post. It's mostly just adding magnets, getting the polarities right, and using enough (but not too much) super glue.
Regarding the Pi Tin build itself, I did have some problems with the tolerances on the 3D-printed d-pad. It's pretty hard to use. Coincidentally, I did have some spare DS Lite buttons lying around and was looking forward to repurposing them here, but the tolerances for them were even tighter, and I wasn't sure if I could fix them.
Thank you to jackw01 and soaporsalad for making the project open source.
