Description
Hey, I have decided, that after a lot of printing on fabric, I should try someting a bit more complicated, than just simple single colored shapes. So here I am, working on chess that are compact, travel friendly and something a bit exotic to my and/or your collection. It will make a great present also, and as far as I know I'm THE FIRST WITH THIS IDEA, YAAAAY!! :D
I'm trying to be as most user friendly as possible, so don't worry, you shouldn't have to adjust anything model (files) related.
Also I reccomend checking my other games - Now you can use the other side of this board for LUDO
3D printer settings reccommended:
For board:
I reccommend using 0,4-0,8mm nozzle at 0,2-0,3mm layer height, larger nozzle - more sturdy individual squares, smaller nozzle - better detail. 0,4-0,8 are indeed ideal, but no one is stopping you from using tiny 0,2mm or your a bit oversized 3mm beast, that consumes filament faster than Italians spaghetti xD (Nothing against Italians, I like them, but it seemed kind of funny :D)
For square-tops:
I've made them specifically to be printed wit 0,4mm or 0,2mm nozzle at 0,2mm layer height (no I will not give you any tolerance for that :D), they are really thin and we are trying to make them at least perfect :D
For game pieces:
Haven't made them yet, but I will stick to my favourite 0,4mm nozzle and 0,2-0,3mm layer height - we really do want as much detail as we can ;)
For lids:
Same as for game pieces, they're not done yet, but with those nozzle and layer height will be probably totally up to your preferences :D
There are a lot of videos on youtube about printing on fabric, they'll explain it better than me ;D
Basically - 2-3 layers, pause print, place your mesh fabric, continue print - voilà chess on fabric :D
Update diary:
20-10-2025: This is my first chess upload, I'm uploading two types of boards - one simple, that can be played only on sturdy and flat surface, and the other, which has sockets for 10x2mm round magnets, so you can play in any position and on any surface you like. Also featured - 0.6mm thic (or I should rather say thin) tops of game squares, for people, who don't have AMS or need to enclose magnets in chess board.
23-10-2025: So I just printed out the base board (without the magnets) on the mesh fabric and 1st set of square tops in black. Gluing them together using tiny super-glue drops. It indeed does hold pretty strong.
23-10-2025-(2): Finished the gluing of the white squares.
25-10-2025: Added the LUDO, which can be found on my profile and can be used on the other side of the board.
Coming soon:
Round lids with slits, so you can roll up your chess board and put your pieces in it - resembling in hollow tube made of two lids, your chess board and filled with your game pieces
Game pieces - I will be glad if you have some reccommendations, leave them in comments - I'm talking about design or some special features
I LOVE COMMUNITY WORK, SO:
Let's work together - I will be really happy if you have any ideas and share them with me, or also a great option is tapping the remix button and you can make anything you want (this topic related) and save me a lot of work (for ex. if you have some ideas about the pieces, or you're more skilled in CAD than me xD), in the exchange I will mention here in the description those remixes that will be the best ;)
If you consider to work with me using the remix button I have some suggestions you can follow (but you don't have to):
The Halloween is ahead of us, so maybe the lids with skulls, pumpkins, ghosts, etc. or game pieces with this theme
Also Christmas are here in two months, so maybe something in this theme
Or if you want something more classical (or classy 'Golden brick piece') :D
