Description
ATTN: This experimental and for proof of concept only. The 3D files for this project have not been tested for flight as this is a early access file which may change as it continues. Please read carefully before wasting filament and time expecting a working flying toy. This statement may change with time and testing.
At this time this remix is in its beta stages. It has shown signs of lifting in a controlled environment with artificially blown air via use of a blower fan. However my area lacks wind speeds to support any type of organic flight at this time.
Summary:
"GyroKite" was once a popular as seen on tv toy which is hard to find and on a rare occasion you may come across one on ebay however they are $$$. They were originally made from plastic injection molded ABS plastic with a mix of steel landing gear and flew in wind speeds minimum of 10 mph.
After finding that there were some people making some prototypes on thingiverse i thought id try my hand at picking up the progress and remixing some projects that are currently on thingiverse.
[this is a remix of CuervoRC and car2slo's work. I give them all the credit for the fuselage tail blades landing mount and flaps.]
PRINTING:
*NOZZLE > 0.4
*MATERIAL > ABS, PETG ,ASA , LoWeightPLA (best), PLA, PLA+ (pick your choice).
**** if your printing with LW-PLA or LW-ASA this is to be used on the fuselage and tail only. Print Blades And Rotor Head assembly parts including landing gear components in harder regular materials. PLA or PLA+ is just fine. However Printing the Whole Model Out of Foaming LW Materials Will Be More Brittle and Out of Counter Balance . (the model needs bottom landing gear weight it acts as a stabilizer)
*SUPPORTS > TREES (yes) - (supports only required for landing gear and rotor blade mount)
*INFILL > 3% for everything including blades [but rotor drive hub parts (20%) and landing gear (100%)]
*LAYER HEIGHT > 0.2 mm
EXTRA REQUIREMENTS AND ! NOT PRINTABLE PARTS !
*3Dpen weld (not recommended for stabilizers flaps or blades), CA GLUE, SUPER GLUE OR EPOXY (AGAIN, YOUR CHOICE).
*FLATHEAD 3MM NAIL FOR ROTOR HEAD APROX 1.5" IN LENGTH OR COAT HANGER WIRE YOUR CHOICE (i used a roofing steel nail and epoxied it in).
*(Optional) Coat hanger wire required for landing gear mount only - IF YOU CHOOSE THIS METHOD CAREFUL SHAPING AND WEIGHT BALANCE IS KEY.
*KITE twine 200 feet minimum also a decent kite twine holder.
*A printer capable of high detail and supports.
*** STEADY WIND SPEED greater than 9mph. this is crucial!
please feel free to comment and contribute as i would love to see any success out of this project.
