Description

This 3D model was developed to support the study of the force and length properties of chemical bonds. The length and strength of a bond—provided that the bond order is the same—are approximately the same, regardless of the molecule in which they occur. For the same pair of atoms, the shorter bond is stronger. Thus, a C≡C triple bond is stronger and shorter than a C=C double bond. In the model, the ends represent carbon atoms, while the flexible central elements represent single, double, and triple bonds. The strength of the chemical bond is represented by the stiffness of the flexible part, which provides a physical perception to the user. By this mechanical analogy, the triple bond is shorter and more resistant to deformation than the double and single bonds. This CAD project was modeled by postgraduate student Francisco Vinícius de Sousa Leonor from the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley.

Este modelo 3D foi desenvolvido para apoiar o estudo das propriedades força e comprimento das ligações químicas. O comprimento e a força de uma ligação - desde que a ordem de ligação seja a mesma, são aproximadamente os mesmos, independentemente da molécula em que estão. No mesmo par de átomos, a ligação mais curta é mais forte. Assim, uma ligação tripla C≡C é mais forte e mais curta do que uma ligação dupla C=C. No modelo, as extremidades representam os átomos de carbono, enquanto os elementos centrais flexíveis representam as ligações simples, dupla e tripla. Por meio de uma analogia mecânica, a ligação tripla é mais curta e mais resistente à deformação do que a ligação dupla e a simples.
