Description
Hello again after such a long time!
Another mech design I have been thinking about for a while but only got a chance to model once I got on winter break, using some more rounder shapes. In retrospect, very Zeonic in design. It comes with a new blaster design and a sword, both can be stored on the backpack.
I have also been tinkering with a new joint design that may be easier to put together and take apart, but I'm not sure how printable it is. I have 2 versions of the shoulder assembly available, one that uses a separate pin piece and one where the pin is part of one of the shoulder pieces. The separate piece would be good if the joint were to wear out as you can just replace the single pin, but it may be harder to print.
The hips also have a slightly modified design to make the thighs look more centered on the hips.
I've tested the designs in both ABS and PLA and it works, but the ball joints in the shoulders and the hinge joint in the hips wear out quite quickly in PLA and will need to be tightened with something. You can use glue, floor polish, nail polish, paint, but what I found works best is using a scrap of plastic from bubble wrap or an old ziplock and putting a couple layers of it inside the socket, giving it more friction that won't wear out as quickly.
The Curveball Mech was designed with a focus on simplicity, durability, and ease of printing.
Joints are achieved through a system of 3mm pins that give just enough friction while also easily removed with pliers (for maximum strength, print these so that the long side of the pin is parallel to the build plate).
3 millimeter ports on the back allow for cross compatibility with most other model kit accessories.
I hope you enjoy. Please send feedback as I may create improved versions of the figure in the future.
Depending on your printer and plastic, some light sanding and/or tightening of parts may be required. Tightening may be done via thin layers of super glue or multi-surface floor polish.
